All about The Best of FB Living

Well, this other half of the blog was originally about curbing my shopaholic tendencies and to explore my love for fashion & style, but it has since evolved into talking about life in general such as talking about Body Image for example, from a kind of Sex and the City, sociological perspective.

My Inner Martha Stewart meets Oprah lovechild also finds time to write about how to organize and better your life, how to use technology, and so on.

Lastly, a lot of readers write in and ask questions like what my Wardrobe Essentials would be, or my Shoe Wardrobe Essentials.

I always answer in a post, and I generally try to make it as detailed as possible.

So without further ado:

FB Technology

Exactly what it means - TECHNOLOGY. I am a self-professed female geek. I work in the IT field, and I do know my computer lingo and am on par with the knowledge of my co-workers around me (I mean, I know what RAM, and all those other fancy acronyms stand for).

I love to buy gadgets, I love to play with them, I think new technologies like e-ink are really cool (I've been following e-ink being used commercially like in e-readers ever since I first heard of its development back in the day), and I think that technology is something that can be used to make our lives easier rather than more difficult.

If you are scared of technology, it just means you don't know about it, and experimenting with small steps like Blogger, basic HTML, learning what is in your computer are all great places to start.

FB Life, Minimalism, & everything in between

This is my catch-all for posts.

Heh.

I rant a lot, and I have a very strong opinion. Sometimes y'all jive with me, and other times I get electronically stoned via comments. (By the way, Anonymous commenting is disabled for a reason).

There's no need to be mean when you have a difference of opinion, but when you're mean, I'm mean back. You get what you deserve. :)

This area I guess is like the love child of Oprah and Martha Stewart - all about life and organization.

FB Career & Travelling

I am an IT consultant, so I live(d) out of a suitcase for a lot of my working career. I know how to work airline chic and deal with sticky situations.

As a consultant I am also always in the forefront in the sense that I have to be constantly re-hired by the client (even if I am part of a consulting company), and I am always in very different industries and work environments.

It is NEVER the same old for me, and I think that's taught me a lot about how to ask for a raise from your manager you never really see on a project with you during the year (I have a project manager for that), or how to just be a girl in a very male dominated field filled with office politics from both the client & consulting side.

I am now a freelancer - I work for myself, and I left after 2.5 years of experience because I could make quadruple my salary outside a company.

FB Fashion & Style

These are reader questions, as well as basic things I think work for most women in fashion. There are always exceptions, and that's the beauty of fashion -- the flexibility to be an individual.

But honestly, there are things that just don't work on everyone and with everything unless you're a hot supermodel (which.. most of us are not).

Tapered and pleated short-hemmed pants are one and oversized baggy t-shirts are another.

But a lot of trendy things are taken out of context from runway to sidewalk, and end up being fashion crimes.

I think about 90% of women agree with my opinions, and those of you in the 10% who want to rock individual style, that's great but you've gotta admit, sometimes it goes horribly wrong.

And that's the price that is paid to be fashion forward and risky. Sometimes it works like a charm and other times we're all thinking: what????

To me, nothing is sexier or more fashion forward than a woman who is comfortable in her own skin. Just a pair of jeans, white t-shirt or tank top and my hair back in a ponytail and I feel like a million bucks.

There's no need to go overboard. More often than not, less is more.

If you have questions you'd like answered, let me know! Email me at brokeinthecity at gmail dot com.

Lastly, you can probably see this, but I don't talk much about makeup. I am not really a makeup junkie (never got into it), but my blogroll features a lot of great makeup bloggers.

I'm just a simple girl who wears a bit of foundation, powder, mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow shader, eyeshadow, blush and lip balm very occasionally.
